Certified Medication Technician (CMT) class prepares qualified candidate for employment as Certified Medication Technician in intermediate care or skilled nursing facilities. The course consists of 60 classroom hours and 8 hours of clinical observation under the direct supervision of a licensed RN. The state’s final written exam and final practicum exam will be given at the end of the course.  Prerequisites must be provided to Franklin Technology Center during application process for approval prior to class beginning.


  1. Proof of high school diploma or GED
  2. Proof of current Tuberculosis test
  3. Proof of registration with Family Care Safety Registry
  4. Proof of minimum 6-month CNA employment
  5. Proof of a clear criminal background check
  6. TABE Test Score Results (Average minimum score of 8.9 on both Reading and Language tests and minimum score of 7.0 on Mathematics Concepts and Application tests on the D level of the TABE) (TABE testing through AEL in Joplin: contact (417)625-5263 for an appointment for testing)
  7. Letter of recommendation from director of nursing or administrator of facility(on letterhead)
  8. Not listed on MO DHSS Employee Disqualification List
  9. Missouri CNA Registry standing must be active and does not have a Federal Indicator


  1. Tuition and course fees of $725 (includes state exam fee) paid in full by 1 week prior to beginning of class
  2. Students are required to wear scrubs at their own expense (no specific color or pattern) Scrubs must be worn during all classes, clinical training, and testing
  3. Complete 60 hours of in-class instruction and 8 hours of supervised clinical training in a state-authorized facility plus a final written examination and final practicum examination
  4. This course is not eligible for financial aid
  5. 100% attendance is required
  6. If a class is cancelled by Franklin Technology Center, a full refund will be given.
  7. If an enrollee cancels or drops a class on or after the start date, no refund will be issued.


FTC must be notified within 24 hours of the state exam of anyone NOT taking the exam. If a student fails to show for a scheduled initial exam or fails to give a 24 hour cancellation notice, the $130 exam fee will be forfeited. A student will not be allowed to reschedule an initial exam unless the $130 reschedule exam fee is paid. Exam fees are non-refundable. Students must schedule the initial exam at least two weeks prior to the exam date.

Students scheduling a repeat exam will be responsible for paying the examiner an $80 repeat exam fee prior to the start of testing. The $80 fee must be paid in cash directly to the examiner. Students must schedule the repeat exam at least two weeks prior to the exam date.

**Scrubs and tennis shoes are mandatory for testing.
